Flames of War D-Day

I am getting stuff painted for my D-Day game, but I don’t actually seem to be getting any closer to running it! But I had a good weekend otherwise…

On Friday night, we played a Might of Arms Renaissance playtest variant game of Louis XIV’s Dutch War. I played Turenne, and only my personal intervention with my cuirassiers in the center allowed the French forces to win the day. Or so I remember it, anyway! We followed it up with a game of Dominion. I came in third out of five. Glad there were two people there who’d never played before I could beat! 🙂

I finished up my first aircraft for Flames of War, a P-47 Thunderbolt. I painted it up as a high-res picture I found on the Internet. I ruined two sets of decals trying to get the side numbering on it. Even the third and last set I tore in half, but manage to align them acceptably, I think. Man, I really, really hate using decals.

I also finished the DUKWs. That should have been the last figures I needed for the 1750/1000 point Hit the Beach game! So, I printed out rosters and started assembling troops, thinking I might get Number One Son to playtest it with me over the weekend! Got all the Americans together, no issues. Then I started on the Germans. Let’s see…the 10.5cm battery needs a staff team…hmmmm…I’m pretty sure I have never painted a German staff team. How could I have painted the 10.5cm battery up and never have painted a staff team…UGH!! I haven’t painted my 10.5cm battery yet!!! Not sure how I convinced myself that I had. So…onto the queue it goes. I started on it over the weekend, and am maybe 2/3 the way through. Soon…

Galaxy Trucker

June 24, 2009

I picked up Galaxy Trucker the other day. It was a bit pricey, but it sounded like a lot of fun and we’ve been playing more board games lately, so I sprung for it. I ran it through the intro with Mik…and, honestly, I was thinking I might have wasted my money. I just didn’t quite see the real fun in it. I persevered, though, and we played it with several other friends this weekend. It was a blast! Everybody had a lot of fun with it, including me. A lot of it just had to do with playing it a few times and getting the hang of it. Anyway, now I’ll have to get the Big Expansion, which lets you play with five players, and includes some new components (and a new alien!)

Shadows Over Camelot

May 29, 2008

Verily! There is much goodness in yon game. We played two games of Shadows Over Camelot last night. It way the first time for Mik and me to play, and our buddy Ray, who owns the game, ran us through it. We played the first time without a traitor, and although we had a tough time defending Camelot towards the end thanks to taking catapults earlier in the game, won pretty handily. The second game, though, we played with the Traitor and had an absolute blast!

Things were going pretty well in the game. I picked up all three quest items, and was absolutely firmly convinced that Ray was the traitor. Using Lancelot’s Armor, I picked up two Evil cards. One would give the Dragon his questing, costing us a black sword, but the other would give us two more catapults to 11. I give up the Dragon’s quest. This seemed to make Mik think I was the Traitor, so he accused me! White sword to black. I turned around and accused Ray to try and get it back, but he was loyal, too!! ANOTHER white sword to black! Now we were really in trouble. We were sitting with 6 black swords and 5 white swords. We had a way to pull 2 white swords off of defeating the Picts, by using my Heroic card to get an extra white sword, but it would have been hugely close. Mik used his knight’s ability to look at the top card, declared that we would all lose if it was played, and put out a catapult. I used the Armor again to check the top two cards, and he was obviously BSing. So, unfortunately, I jumped at the chance to reveal him– giving us one white sword, filling the Round Table with 6 white and 6 black cards, and costing us the game! Ah well, it didn’t look like we could stop the Picts in time before Mik would have hosed us. We all had a BLAST with this game!!
